Turtles strand in high numbers on Cape | CapeCodOnline.com.
Every year these guys get caught by the rapidly dropping water temperatures. Staying ahead of that by heading South is no small effort in itself, but add the geography of the Cape and as a turtle you find yourself in a trap.  The assumption that they have an innate ability to read the moon and stars or their internal GPS system may be incorrect, or it may just be too much for them to find the canal and head out that way.
One good thing is that we have plenty of folks patrolling the beaches on the outer Cape and bayside, and that may limit casualties.
And now we have at least one piece of good news coming out of Quincy, MA (William Keating being the bad news), in the form of the auxiliary aquarium facilities in that town. This means easier and quicker access to help for the turtles, and other stranded marine life.
