Winter weather is finally here. It came announced but underestimated. They said we’d get some flurries, maximum accumulation of an inch or so, maybe. It would have been nice to know the real character of this storm before I left for work this morning.  In hindsight, I would not have left at all. Four hours of mostly unplowed highway later I barely managed to find my driveway covered by some eight inches of snow and tree limbs hanging down trying to form some windswept archway. How eerie it was to drive those last few miles with no other car or person around, in what should have been pitch dark but instead glowed an eerie green of winter.Â
Once in the house, I turned on the tree lights, noticing that the neighbor’s colorful display had not been plugged in as had been customary every other night for a fortnight.Â
Shoveling will have to wait until tomorrow.  As I listen to the wind some more before settling in for the night, I remember that the days are supposed to be getting longer again tomorrow. I’ve heard that mentioned at least three times over the last week or so, indicating that at least that many people, and probably many more, have had enough already. You only have to look outside to realize it’s way too soon to think this way. You are just asking to have your spirit broken.
