Everyone told me that Meehania cordata would be a good plant for those dark and foreboding corners of the garden where light is scarce. The plant has been in a spot for well over two years with better light conditions than that, but it has not really thrived. This year I thought I had lost it altogether when only a few leaves appeared in the spring. I am happy to report that this creeping mint is back from the brink – it’s even flowering, for the first time! The soil quality may be lacking for this plant, so I need to see whether I can enhance it somewhat.
The plant was named by Nathaniel Lord Britton for the late Thomas Meehan, a botanist from Philadelphia. Cordata refers to the leaves, which are somewhat heart shaped.
