This beautiful vine is finally blooming, 2 years after having been planted. Curiously, the plant in the semi-shade is erupting into flowers before the coral honeysuckle on the south side of the house, but that one is not far behind. It may have been a matter of maturity. Lonerica sempervirens is a good climber that will gladly wind its way up any structure you provide. The flowers are favorites of hummingbirds, and bees (in my area those are predominantly bumblebees). “sempervirens” indicates that this plant has evergreen qualities. On Cape Cod, that is not so – it does shed its leaves when it grows cold. Coral, or trumpet honeysuckle as it is often called, is native to the Canadian provinces of Quebec and Ontaria and a majority of the US states east of the Rockies.
