I just added this plant to the edge of my woodland garden. Browneyed susan is a biennial, so I am hoping that it will self-seed in that particular area. That may be wishful thinking on my part, because the plant would do better with a bit more direct sunlight. However, other folks have had no problem with Rudbeckia triloba maintaining a presence in their yard, from self-seeding alone, in less than ideal circumstances. Right now it is displaying a mass of beautiful showy quarter sized flowers. The blooming period lasts for a month or two from July through August. Triloba points to the three-lobed leaves, but the plant also displays 5 and seven lobed leaves. Seems to me the naming convention folks were somewhat quick to pull the trigger…
